A Grand Afternoon Tea in Birmingham
Afternoon tea text and information
Piping-hot tea, ice cold bubbles, classic savouries and sweet petit gâteaux
A traditional afternoon tea in Birmingham is a delightful way to spend an afternoon in the city. Take your seats and allow us to present you with classic and seasonal delicacies, prepared with classic French flair and patisserie techniques.
The Classic English ritual of afternoon tea was first dreamt up by Anna Russell, the seventh Duchess of Bedford in 1840, who was a close friend of Queen Victoria. The Duchess asked for some cake, a pot of tea and some bread and butter one mid-afternoon so that she could fill ‘that sinking feeling’ she felt during the mid-afternoon. This became a habit and it soon became a fashionable social event for Anna and her high society friends.
With its rich history and increasingly vibrant culinary scene, Birmingham serves as the perfect backdrop to enjoy a quintessentially British afternoon tea ritual, complete with all the sweet and savoury treats you would expect from such an experience. The menu, curated by Head Pastry Chef Mustapha Rahimi and his team, is a classic afternoon tea with a modern twist.
Mustapha and his team are always striving to create new and exciting afternoon tea offerings, from delightful twists on familiar classics to brand-new creations that are a feast for the senses.
During your visit we’d love you to take in the original features and bespoke artwork that is inspired by the hotel’s history and the city of Birmingham.
